Amazon in Talks to Acquire AI Startup Decart for Around $7 Billion

Amazon is in active negotiations to acquire Decart, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence startup, in a deal valued at approximately $7 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Sunday. The deal could be finalized soon if talks do not collapse, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.

Decart's software is designed to make it easier for developers to switch between different AI chips, giving it strategic value as the industry grapples with chip supply constraints and the dominance of Nvidia hardware. The $7 billion price tag represents a significant step up from Decart's valuation of roughly $4 billion just three months prior, reflecting the intensifying competition among major technology companies for scarce AI software and infrastructure assets.

The reported talks follow an earlier round of deal interest in Decart that had linked Amazon-backed Anthropic, SpaceX, and Nebius to a potential acquisition in the $6 billion to $7 billion range. It is now Amazon directly, not Anthropic, that is reported to be in negotiations at the higher end of that range.
