Ciena Beats Q3 Estimates Across the Board and Raises Full-Year Guidance as AI Demand Surges

Ciena Corporation reported record fiscal third-quarter 2026 results before the opening bell on September 3, with revenue, operating income, and adjusted earnings per share all surpassing Wall Street estimates and reaching new company highs. Revenue came in at $1.67 billion, up 37% year over year and ahead of the $1.63 billion consensus, while adjusted EPS of $2.11 beat the $1.73 estimate by $0.39 and rose 215% from the prior-year period.

Adjusted operating income reached $375.7 million against a $323 million estimate, and adjusted EBITDA came in at $411.1 million versus the $361 million consensus. Adjusted gross margin was 46.4% and adjusted operating margin hit 22.5% for the quarter. By segment, Optical Networking generated $1.19 billion in net revenue, Routing and Switching contributed $164.4 million, Platform Software and Services added $98.6 million, Blue Planet brought in $23.2 million, and Global Services accounted for $193.6 million.

Ciena raised its full-year fiscal 2026 revenue guidance to $6.42 billion, plus or minus $50 million, above the prior Street estimate of $6.34 billion. For the fourth quarter, the company guided revenue of $1.75 billion, plus or minus $50 million, ahead of the $1.70 billion consensus, with adjusted gross margin of 45% plus or minus 50 basis points, adjusted operating expense of $415 million plus or minus $10 million, and adjusted operating margin of 20% plus or minus 50 basis points.

Management attributed the results and outlook to accelerating demand for optical networking equipment across data-center and wide-area network applications, driven by AI infrastructure buildout. The company described itself as the only pure-play optical systems and interconnects provider, citing expanding supply capacity and increasing operating leverage as the foundation for continued earnings acceleration. Ciena stock rose in pre-market and early trading on the news.
