Critical Metals Wins Greenland Government Approval for Tanbreez Rare Earth Mine Through 2050

Critical Metals Corp. (Nasdaq: CRML) received formal approval from the Greenland government for both its mining plan and closure plan for the Tanbreez rare earth project, with the approvals valid through the year 2050. The announcement, made on October 5, 2026, marks a pivotal regulatory milestone for one of the world's largest rare earth deposits, located in southern Greenland and containing all eight heavy rare earth elements critical to defense, clean energy and advanced technology supply chains.

The approval builds on Critical Metals' expanding control over Tanbreez. The company had previously secured Greenland government permission to increase its effective ownership to 92.5% of Tanbreez Mining Greenland, with European Lithium retaining a 7.5% interest. Shares of CRML surged roughly 22% following the series of positive Greenland government actions, reflecting investor confidence in the project's path toward production.

Tanbreez is central to efforts by Western-aligned nations to build rare earth supply chains independent of China. The project's heavy rare earth elements, including dysprosium and terbium, are essential inputs for electric vehicle motors, defense applications and next-generation technologies. The long-dated approvals through 2050 give the company a durable regulatory foundation as it advances toward full-scale mining operations.
