Dave and Buster's Entertainment reported second-quarter results after the close on September 14 that fell well short of Wall Street expectations, sending shares into a steep decline that accelerated through the trading session on September 15. Revenue missed consensus estimates by approximately $13 million against a $567.2 million analyst target, the company posted a quarterly net loss versus an expected earnings per share of $0.84, comparable sales declined 2.9%, and margins were compressed across the business. Shares plunged more than 11% in pre-market trading on heavy institutional order flow before extending losses through the session. By the close on September 15, PLAY was off approximately 19.3%, making it the largest drag on the restaurants and eateries sector, which itself fell about 2.9% on the day. The one constructive detail in the report was that free cash flow turned positive for the first time in a year.
