Dexcom G7 CONNECT Trial Published in NEJM Sends Shares Up 4 Percent

DexCom shares rose roughly 4% in premarket trading on October 15 after the company announced publication of its landmark CONNECT randomized controlled trial in The New England Journal of Medicine, marking the first time in nearly two decades that the journal has published standalone real-time continuous glucose monitoring data.

The trial showed that adults with Type 2 diabetes not on insulin who used the Dexcom G7 achieved an average A1C reduction of 1.6% from a mean baseline of 8.8%, a 0.9 percentage point greater reduction than patients receiving routine care. Participants also spent approximately five additional hours per day with blood sugar in the target range. Benefits held across a broad population, including patients taking GLP-1 medications and those over age 65.

The CONNECT publication is significant for Dexcom because it provides rigorous clinical evidence supporting earlier use of continuous glucose monitoring in Type 2 diabetes care, a much larger patient population than the insulin-dependent users who traditionally drove CGM adoption. Mizuho had already raised its price target on DXCM to $100 from $95 ahead of the announcement.
