Huntington Bancshares Cuts Revenue and Earnings Outlook at Barclays Conference, Stock Falls 3%

Huntington Bancshares lowered its fiscal 2026 revenue growth outlook and reduced its fiscal 2027 earnings forecast while presenting at the Barclays 24th Annual Global Financial Services Conference on September 16, 2026. CEO Steve Steinour and CFO Zach Wasserman cited higher short-term interest rates and intensifying competition in loan and deposit pricing as the primary forces constraining net interest margin expansion.

The bank now expects fiscal 2027 earnings per share of $1.75 to $1.83, down from a prior forecast of $1.90 to $1.93 issued in April. The revised FY26 revenue guidance arrived alongside a raised share buyback target, signaling that management is leaning on capital return to support the stock even as the revenue outlook softens. Earlier in the day the company also announced it was raising its prime rate to 7.00 percent.

Shares fell roughly 3 percent on the day, having already dropped about 2.1 percent in pre-market trading after the guidance update emerged. The stock underperformed regional bank peers on Wednesday. The guidance cut follows a pattern of margin pressure that surfaced at the Q2 2026 earnings call, where management noted deposit costs and competitive pricing dynamics were the biggest drag on net interest income.
