JPMorgan Expands JPM Coin Deposit Token to Ethereum for Institutional Clients

JPMorgan is bringing its JPM Coin deposit token, known as JPMD, to the Ethereum mainnet, extending the bank's blockchain payment infrastructure beyond its earlier deployment on Base in November 2025. The USD-denominated token represents dollar deposits held at JPMorgan and is available exclusively to approved institutional clients, including large crypto firms and financial institutions. A JPMorgan blockchain executive told Bloomberg the bank selected Ethereum specifically for its liquidity and client usage patterns.

The Ethereum expansion enables peer-to-peer transfers within the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem, including Base, allowing eligible institutions to move JPMorgan-held dollar deposits within seconds around the clock. That stands in contrast to conventional settlement processes, which are restricted to business hours and can take several days to complete. JPM Coin is also used for settling tokenized-asset transactions. The bank's Kinexys blockchain platform, which underpins JPM Coin, has processed more than $4 trillion cumulatively.

The move is being closely watched as a signal of Wall Street's deepening commitment to public blockchain infrastructure. Analysts and industry observers note that JPMorgan's choice of Ethereum's public chain, rather than a purely private ledger, could encourage other financial institutions to build similar products on the same network. The Brickken CEO suggested the integration may democratize tokenization by giving smaller banks a template for improving liquidity and financial service access. ETH was trading near $2,448 at the time of the announcement, with traders watching the $2,600 level as near-term resistance.
