Keurig Dr Pepper Q3 Beat Overshadowed by Warning of Slower Coffee Profits in Q4 as Consumers Trade Down

Keurig Dr Pepper posted stronger-than-expected third-quarter results on November 3, with adjusted earnings per share of $0.66 beating analyst estimates of $0.62-$0.63 by $0.04 and net sales of $7.34 billion edging past the $7.33 billion consensus. GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders rose 22.4% to $810 million, or $0.59 per diluted share, up from $662 million, or $0.49 per share, a year earlier. Adjusted operating income came in at $1.7 billion against an estimate of $1.57 billion.

The standout segment was U.S. refreshment beverages, where volumes surged 7.2% and net prices rose 3.7% year over year, reflecting steady consumer demand for the company's higher-priced drinks. Gross margin, however, compressed sharply to 48% from 54.3% in the year-ago period, a signal of rising input or mix costs that tempered enthusiasm.

Despite the Q3 beat, shares fell roughly 4.3% in premarket trading after the company flagged that fourth-quarter coffee profits would come in slower as shoppers trade down within the coffee category. KDP reaffirmed its full-year 2026 net sales outlook of $25.9 billion to $26.4 billion, a range that brackets the consensus estimate of $26.31 billion, and held its adjusted earnings guidance unchanged. The company also said it continues to plan an early 2027 business separation.
