Ledger Unveils $899 Atom Android Device With Solana Integration as It Probes Tampered Wallet Scandal
Read this in the Market Flux appLedger announced Atom, a $899 Android-based security device, at its Op3n conference in Paris on October 15, revealing a product that combines everyday smartphone functions with a protected Secure Mode for reviewing and signing crypto transactions. The device runs Android Open Source Project software alongside Ledger OS, and will support regular apps such as WhatsApp and Instagram while keeping asset management isolated in a hardened environment.
The launch arrives under significant pressure. Ledger is actively investigating the CryptoBilis incident, in which a Malaysian distributor allegedly modified hardware wallets with screen-reader implants before they reached customers. Onchain researchers estimated losses of up to $93.2 million across more than 300 wallets, with Tether freezing $10 million of affected funds. Ledger said genuine wallets were tampered with after leaving its control and has tightened reseller rules in response.
Atom's new tamper-resistant enclosures, sensors, and packaging are specifically designed to block the type of implant found in the CryptoBilis breach, and the protections are active even when the device is switched off. Ledger said it will initially sell Atom exclusively through its own website to limit third-party distribution risks, though it will not offer trade-ins for customers affected by the earlier breach.
Solana Mobile named Ledger as its first hardware expansion partner, with the Seeker app and Solana dApp Store preinstalled on Atom. The device will also support AI-agent transaction approvals through a planned integration with OpenClaw. Shipping is scheduled for summer 2027.
