Navitas Semiconductor and Microchip Technology Announce 800V DC Reference Design for AI Data Center Racks

Navitas Semiconductor and Microchip Technology announced a collaboration on Monday to develop an 800V DC-to-6V DC reference design aimed at next-generation AI data center rack power applications. The partnership pairs Navitas's GaNFast gallium nitride power semiconductor technology with Microchip's capabilities to deliver a single-stage power conversion solution for high-density AI infrastructure.

The 800V-to-6V direct conversion approach eliminates the traditional 48V intermediate bus converter stage found in conventional rack architectures, a design change that reduces conversion losses, lowers system cost, and frees up board space that can be redirected to compute, memory, and GPU capacity. The reference design targets the growing push by data center operators toward 800V DC power distribution, a standard gaining traction in advanced AI facilities as rack power densities rise sharply.
