Nvidia Launches AI Chip Design Evaluation with ChipAgents and Pledges $250 Million in Compute to UK Safety Research
Read this in the Market Flux appNvidia moved on two major fronts on October 14, partnering with chip design startup ChipAgents to launch an evaluation program for AI-powered chip design, and separately committing $250 million worth of computing resources to British scientists to fund agentic AI safety and security research over five years.
The ChipAgents collaboration, reported by The Information, targets one of the semiconductor industry's most resource-intensive bottlenecks. Designing chips traditionally costs hundreds of millions of dollars and can take years using conventional tools, and AI agents capable of planning and executing complex tasks with minimal human oversight could dramatically compress both cost and time. ChipAgents had previously raised a total of $134 million in Series A funding, with B Capital leading a $60 million Series A2 round, and counts Bessemer Venture Partners among its backers.
The UK compute pledge, announced earlier the same day, will be delivered through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners with infrastructure hosted in Britain, positioning the country as a global center for AI governance and security. Nvidia said the funding is aimed at agentic AI safety, reflecting growing industry focus on overseeing increasingly autonomous AI systems.
Also on October 14, Honeywell Technologies launched Forge Cognition, its first major AI platform since its corporate breakup, built in partnership with Nvidia and Dell Technologies. The platform, piloted at Nvidia's Voyager headquarters, is designed to automate building and industrial operations and can operate in manual, semi-autonomous, or fully autonomous modes, though Honeywell's CTO confirmed the autonomous mode has not yet been activated for customers.
