Palo Alto Networks shares climbed as much as 7% on October 23, leading a broad cybersecurity sector rally that also lifted CrowdStrike by roughly 6.8%, Cloudflare by 7%, Okta by nearly 6% and Zscaler by about 4%. SailPoint gained more than 11%. The moves came on above-average volume and pushed PANW to one of its largest single-day gains in recent months.
The primary catalyst was Evercore ISI's quarterly survey of cybersecurity channel partners, which described security budgets strengthening into year-end, healthy demand pipelines and growing enterprise spending on AI security, identity protection and cloud environments. The survey named CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks as the leading beneficiaries of AI-driven security spending, and flagged Okta as having the strongest pipeline momentum of any vendor surveyed.
A threat disclosure added urgency to the spending picture. The PHP Foundation on October 21 disclosed two critical vulnerabilities, known as PHP2Shell, that were identified with AI assistance. Palo Alto CEO Nikesh Arora had warned publicly that AI-powered threat discovery would accelerate the pace of such disclosures, reinforcing the case for higher security budgets. Deutsche Bank separately identified Palo Alto, CrowdStrike and Snowflake as stocks positioned to benefit as enterprises expand AI use cases.
The rally unfolded even as broader markets were under pressure, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping roughly 600 points on the same day. CMH Wealth Management LLC, separately, disclosed via a 13F filing that it reduced its PANW stake by 9.6%, or 5,488 shares, to 51,685 shares during the most recent quarter, a routine institutional trim that had no apparent effect on sentiment.
