The Pentagon has announced it will livestream the firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army major convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. A U.S. Army memo sets the execution for December 3 at 1 p.m. CDT at Fort Hood, the same base where Hasan carried out his attack. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the public will be able to watch.

The decision to broadcast the execution publicly would be unprecedented in modern American history, with the country not having held a public execution in roughly 90 years. The execution by firing squad would itself mark the first time the U.S. military has put someone to death using that method since World War II, making both the method and its public broadcast historic departures from recent practice.
