Putin Pledges Full Support for Iran as Pezeshkian Signals Continued US Negotiation Push

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday and pledged that Russia would do everything in its power to help end the conflict in the Middle East. Putin said Russia is aware that Iran is making genuine attempts to resolve the situation and is bringing forward new proposals, and he declared that Moscow stands with Tehran in navigating the crisis.

Following the talks, Pezeshkian said Iran is currently compiling proposals that, once finalized, will be reviewed through intermediaries and conveyed to the United States. He reaffirmed that Iran will not withdraw from the negotiating table, and that proposals exchanged through intermediaries will be prepared and formally presented to the US side. The statements signal that diplomatic channels remain open despite earlier signals from Tehran that talks with Washington had grown difficult.

The meeting took place against a backdrop of stalled US-Iran negotiations, with Tehran and Washington at odds over Iran's nuclear enrichment rights. Russia's explicit offer to serve as a facilitator adds a significant diplomatic dimension to efforts to end the conflict and could shape the next phase of talks.
