Super Micro Computer Surges 13-17% After Q4 Earnings Beat and Blowout FY2027 Guidance

Super Micro Computer shares jumped roughly 13-17% on August 12, trading near $35.81, after the AI server maker posted fiscal fourth-quarter results and forward guidance that decisively topped Wall Street expectations. Adjusted earnings came in at $1.70 per share, nearly double the $0.92 analysts had forecast, representing a 315% year-over-year earnings jump. Revenue grew 93% year over year, though it came in slightly below estimates due to supply chain delays.

Adjusted gross margin expanded to 17.5-17.6%, well above prior guidance. For the current quarter, Super Micro guided to revenue of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, and the company set full-year fiscal 2027 revenue guidance of $65 billion to $72 billion, far above what analysts had projected. The company cited a record backlog exceeding $60 billion and noted that customers cannot deploy AI servers fast enough to meet demand.

The strong results lifted peers, with Dell gaining 5% and HPE rising 3% in sympathy. Bank of America raised its price target citing margin improvement, Mizuho lifted its target citing order strength, Bernstein raised its target on the margin beat, and Rosenblatt also increased its price target following the guidance beat. Needham reiterated its rating on the revenue outlook.

Analysts flagged that while the quarter reinforces the AI infrastructure bull case, gross margin volatility remains a concern, with management guiding to lower margins in Q1 FY2027 compared to the Q4 beat. SMCI was the top-performing S&P 500 component in early Wednesday trading, with year-to-date gains reaching roughly 23.9% before the day's move. The results came alongside a broader AI infrastructure rally that included CoreWeave surging roughly 19-21% and Nebius jumping 16-23% on its own blowout results.
