Tech Stocks Surge on Strong Q2 Earnings as Airbnb Leads Broad Rally

Airbnb led a wave of earnings beats, with shares soaring 12% after reporting Q2 revenue of $3.6 billion and EPS of $1.37, both exceeding estimates, while raising full-year guidance. The vacation rental platform posted 17% revenue growth and 33% EPS growth year-over-year, with gross booking value reaching $27.2 billion.

Technology and semiconductor companies delivered particularly strong results. Microchip Technology posted Q1 sales of $1.49 billion with adjusted EPS of $0.76, both beating expectations. Applied Optoelectronics reported 86% revenue growth to $191.9 million and issued Q3 guidance above consensus. Onto Innovation beat estimates with $343.1 million in revenue and raised Q3 guidance to $380-400 million.

Software companies also outperformed. Atlassian reported non-GAAP EPS of $1.87, beating by $0.37, with revenue of $1.77 billion exceeding estimates by $110 million. Gen Digital raised full-year guidance after posting 11% revenue growth to $1.34 billion.

Healthcare and industrial sectors showed mixed results. BioMarin Pharmaceutical beat estimates with $989.7 million in revenue, while Halozyme Therapeutics reported $481 million in revenue, exceeding expectations by $78.72 million. Republic Services raised full-year guidance after posting $4.4 billion in Q2 revenue.

Rideshare company Lyft reported 23% growth in gross bookings to $5.5 billion with 30.5 million active riders, though revenue of $1.8 billion slightly missed estimates. Arrow Electronics posted strong results with 32% revenue growth to $10 billion and 124% EPS growth.
