Trump Envoy Witkoff to Offer Putin Direct Three-Way Summit With Trump and Zelenskyy After Oslo Talks
Read this in the Market Flux appUS special envoy Steve Witkoff met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders in Oslo on Tuesday, then prepared to fly to St. Petersburg on Wednesday to present Russian leadership with a proposal for face-to-face peace talks involving Zelenskyy, Witkoff, and President Trump himself, according to Politico.
The Oslo session brought together Zelenskyy, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and US envoys Witkoff and Jared Kushner as they worked to develop a peace proposal ahead of the Russia visit. Stubb said the group identified "some elements of peace" that Witkoff would carry forward to St. Petersburg. Støre confirmed Witkoff's travel plans in remarks to reporters but did not specify which members of the Russian leadership Witkoff would meet.
The diplomatic push comes amid a public standoff between Zelenskyy and the Trump administration. Trump renewed calls for new leadership in Ukraine as recently as Monday, and Zelenskyy has criticised Washington for restricting Ukrainian access to critical satellite intelligence. Witkoff is also expected to press Russian officials for the release of at least one American held in Russia.
