Trump Launches AI Government Portal and Signs Executive Order at White House Tech Summit

President Trump launched America.gov, a new AI-powered portal billed as a front door for government services, on Tuesday ahead of a White House luncheon with the country's most powerful technology executives. The platform aggregates information from roughly 29,000 federal websites, allows users to ask questions in plain language and receive answers sourced from official government pages, and carries no ads while storing no user conversations. Additional capabilities, including form completion and tracking of government services, are planned for 2027. Trump also announced he would sign an executive order on AI at the event, underscoring the administration's push to position Washington as a driver rather than a regulator of the technology.

The AI luncheon brought together an extraordinary concentration of industry power. Attendees included Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Satya Nadella, Jensen Huang, Mark Zuckerberg, Lisa Su, Hock Tan and Dario Amodei, alongside executives from Palantir, Amazon and ServiceNow, according to Axios. House Speaker Mike Johnson also attended. The gathering comes as the administration signals a preference for an industry-led approach to AI safety, even as lawmakers including Sen. John Hickenlooper pressed Trump publicly for stronger guardrails.

Elsewhere, L3Harris received a roughly $6 billion THAAD propulsion contract from Lockheed Martin, with plans to build a new facility for boost motor manufacturing and expand production capacity. The award carries added urgency after the Congressional Budget Office estimated this month that the Iran war since June 2025 has consumed as much as two-thirds of U.S. missile-defense interceptors and that rebuilding inventory would likely take at least five years.

A separate controversy swirled around U.S.-China relations after Ambassador David Perdue said Trump had asked Chinese President Xi Jinping whether Beijing wanted to buy American weapons during discussions that also touched on U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. Sen. Bernie Sanders publicly questioned the exchange, noting it appeared to contradict the administration's framing of China as a top strategic competitor. The State Department said U.S. law prohibits weapons sales to China, and Trump disputed Perdue's account, suggesting the ambassador may have been referring to Taiwan. Nvidia and AMD separately lobbied the administration to halt potential new chip export restrictions to China.

Trump's approval rating fell to 37 percent in a Wall Street Journal poll, the lowest recorded for any president heading into a midterm election in Journal polling going back to 1990.
