President Donald Trump announced Friday that Stephen Miller, currently serving as deputy chief of staff and the chief architect of the administration's immigration policies, will become White House chief of staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026. Miller replaces Susie Wiles, who had been serving as chief of staff and was the first woman to hold that position. Trump made the announcement via Truth Social, praising Wiles and saying she will move to his political operation.

The shake-up comes just three days after Democrats won a landslide victory in the midterm elections, reclaiming majority control of both the House and Senate from Republicans. Trump said he "wanted to make a change" and expressed confidence that Miller "will do a great job." Miller is one of Trump's longest-serving and most trusted advisers, having been part of his inner circle since the earliest days of his first presidential campaign.

More than anything, I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.
