Trump Says Iran War Will End Very Soon and Demands Nuclear Weapons Guarantee

President Donald Trump declared on Friday that the war with Iran will end very soon, saying in a KCMO radio interview in Kansas City that it is "going to get wrapped up soon, one way or another." He demanded that any resolution include an ironclad guarantee that Tehran will never develop nuclear weapons, warning that a nuclear-armed Iran would have had catastrophic consequences. Trump called Iran the world's top state sponsor of terrorism and renewed his criticism of the Iran nuclear deal, which he argued would have given Tehran a path to a nuclear weapon.

Trump acknowledged a significant complication in reaching a negotiated end to the conflict: the elimination of much of Iran's leadership has left the United States uncertain about who holds authority on the Iranian side. "Don't know who to talk with, a lot of Iran leaders gone," he said, while insisting that Iran must come to the table and make a deal. Fox News reported separately that Trump was briefed Thursday on potential military options in Iran, underscoring that a diplomatic resolution is not the only scenario under active consideration.

Trump also reiterated his suggestion of renaming the Strait of Hormuz the "Trump Strait," a move that would carry significant symbolic weight given the waterway's role as a critical chokepoint for global oil flows. Analysis from the RAND Corporation cautioned that the current approach is unlikely to produce a clean or quick end to the war, but noted that the alternatives may be worse.
