Trump Urges Congress to Pass Crypto Clarity Act at White House Meeting with Industry Executives, Announces Plans to Buy More Bitcoin

President Trump called on Congress to pass the Crypto Clarity Act during a White House meeting with crypto industry executives on August 19, urging lawmakers to advance what he described as a very powerful structure for digital asset regulation. Trump specifically asked for a fair version of the bill and said his administration's regulators are actively working to bring Hyperliquid into the U.S. under a compliant framework. He also announced plans for the U.S. government to purchase a large amount of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The push comes as the Clarity Act, formally known as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, remains pending in the Senate after Majority Leader John Thune filed to set up a procedural vote upon return from the August recess in mid-September. The bill would establish the first comprehensive federal rulebook for crypto, defining when digital tokens are securities or commodities and which regulators oversee them. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and acting CFTC Chairman Michael Selig were also expected at the White House event, which took place a day before the CFTC's inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting.
