UK Deploys RAF Typhoon Jets to Saudi Arabia for Defensive Missions Against Houthi Attacks

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has ordered the Royal Air Force to fly defensive missions protecting Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks, with the UK Ministry of Defence confirming the deployment on October 20. RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets will be sent to defend Saudi cities and infrastructure against aerial strikes by the Iran-backed Yemeni group, with authorities specifying the aircraft will operate in a defensive role only and will not conduct offensive strikes against the Houthis.

Alongside the Typhoons, an A400M transport aircraft and British military advisers will also be deployed as part of the expanded support package. The move marks a significant escalation of direct UK military involvement in the Arabian Peninsula, with the Ministry of Defence formally confirming the defensive air mission mandate.
