The record price is being driven by a global refined-products crisis tied to two simultaneous international conflicts. The ongoing US-Israel war with Iran has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries have further curtailed fuel exports from that region, reducing global diesel supply and pushing wholesale energy costs sharply higher.

Diesel powers the core of the American industrial economy, including trucks, trains, tractors, boats, buses, farming equipment and construction vehicles. Analysts describe it as the fuel behind the "three T's" of the economy, and the record price is expected to push transportation and logistics costs higher across a wide range of goods, feeding broader inflationary pressure.
