USS George Washington to Replace USS Abraham Lincoln in Middle East as Iran Tensions Persist

The United States is deploying the USS George Washington aircraft carrier to the Middle East to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln in what the Pentagon describes as a previously scheduled rotation, the Wall Street Journal reported on August 13. The Lincoln has been deployed for more than 250 days, including a record 200 days without a port call, straining conditions aboard the vessel. The rotation comes days after multiple reports surfaced about deteriorating living conditions on the Lincoln.

The swap reflects the sustained military pressure the U.S. has maintained in the region amid ongoing strain from the conflict with Iran.
