Verizon and Corning announced a multi-year, multi-billion dollar supply agreement on September 8, 2026, under which Corning will supply Verizon with more than 80 million miles of high-density optical fiber and connectivity solutions from 2027 through 2032. The deal is designed to meet surging demand for consumer broadband and converged services while also building out the high-density backbone required to support generative AI compute workloads.
The agreement accelerates Verizon's push to expand broadband access to more homes and businesses across the country, a buildout that has gained scale following the company's acquisition of Frontier Communications, which closed January 20, 2026, and extended Verizon's fiber footprint to more than 30 million homes and businesses. Verizon ended the second quarter of fiscal 2026 with 10.9 million fiber broadband connections, up 43.3% year over year, with 348,000 broadband net additions in the quarter.
Corning shares rose roughly 6% to 7% on the day of the announcement. The deal adds a long-term committed customer at a moment when Corning has told investors it could sell more fiber than it can currently produce. The Verizon agreement also builds on an earlier partnership with Nvidia announced in May 2026, which called for a tenfold expansion in Corning's U.S. optical-connectivity capacity and a more than 50% increase in fiber-production capacity, supported by several billion dollars in Nvidia funding and prepayments for new Corning plants. The Verizon news also lifted shares of other optical-fiber suppliers on the day. Corning shares remain well below their June 2026 highs after falling 45.88% between June 30 and July 31, 2026, sliding from $254.95 to $137.99 on an adjusted basis.
