Vertex Pharmaceuticals Beats Q3 Revenue Estimates and Raises 2026 Guidance After Crinetics Deal Closes

Vertex Pharmaceuticals reported third-quarter 2026 total revenue of $3.44 billion, a 12% increase from the same period in 2025 and ahead of the FactSet consensus estimate of $3.42 billion. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $4.76, slightly below the consensus estimate of $4.82, with acquisition-related costs from the Crinetics Pharmaceuticals deal weighing on the bottom line.

Following the results, Vertex raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $13.15 billion to $13.25 billion, up from the prior range of $13.1 billion to $13.2 billion. The incremental $40 million to $50 million in the revised outlook reflects the contribution from Crinetics, whose acquisition closed in the third quarter and established rare endocrine diseases as Vertex's fourth commercial franchise.

Multiple Wall Street firms raised their price targets on VRTX after the report. TD Cowen lifted its target to $575 from $550, JPMorgan moved to $570 from $560, and Wells Fargo also raised its target, citing confidence in Vertex's manufacturing capacity. Cantor Fitzgerald likewise increased its target on pipeline confidence, while UBS had previously set a $615 target.

The next major catalyst is the PDUFA date of November 30 for povetacicept in IgA nephropathy, which management said would establish nephrology as the company's fifth commercial franchise. CEO Reshma Kewalramani described the quarter as marked by strong revenue growth across a diversifying portfolio and continued pipeline advancement, with the company pointing to multiple additional near-term pipeline milestones beyond the povetacicept decision.
