BP Makes Ian Tyler Permanent Chairman After Firing Albert Manifold Over Governance Concerns

BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its permanent chairman with immediate effect, confirming the role he had held on an interim basis since May 2026. Tyler, a former chief executive of building group Balfour Beatty, had joined BP's board as a nonexecutive director in April 2025 before being elevated to interim chair.

BP removed Albert Manifold in May after less than a year in the position, citing serious concerns about governance and conduct. Tyler's permanent appointment closes a turbulent chapter in BP's boardroom leadership following that abrupt dismissal.
