Ethereum Postpones Glamsterdam Hoodi Testnet Upgrade After Security Firm Flags Smart Contract Risks

Ethereum core developers have postponed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet, originally scheduled for October 26, 2026, after blockchain security firm ChainSecurity identified serious risks tied to proposed gas-accounting changes. The decision was made during All Core Devs Execution call number 248, with no new Hoodi activation date confirmed and no mainnet timeline established.

ChainSecurity warned that two proposals included in Glamsterdam, EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, could undermine existing smart contract safeguards by altering how failed transactions are handled under the new gas rules. The firm identified 13 real-world smart contracts potentially affected and said it is coordinating responsible disclosure with the projects involved.

The delay raises broader questions about Ethereum's near-term technological roadmap and has weighed on market confidence. Glamsterdam, which aims to raise the gas limit to roughly 200 million per block, more than three times the current mainnet cap, had already completed a Sepolia testnet run in early October before the security concerns halted progress toward Hoodi and eventual mainnet deployment.
