Trump Says He Is Not Happy With Ambassador Guilfoyle and Weighs Firing Her Amid Misconduct Allegations

President Trump said on October 12 that he is considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. Ambassador to Greece following a series of misconduct allegations, telling reporters he was looking into the matter and was not happy with her. Guilfoyle, a former Fox News personality who was engaged to Trump's eldest son Donald Trump Jr. for four years, was appointed to the Athens post earlier in the administration.

The allegations against Guilfoyle include reports that she accepted lavish gifts while serving as ambassador and, before her confirmation, sought money from a Trump donor in exchange for access to administration figures. One account, citing messages provided by that donor, purports to show Guilfoyle instructing him to wire $100,000 directly to her American Express account because, in the messages, it "won't show up anywhere." The donor said he declined to pay. Lawyers for Guilfoyle denied the allegations about seeking money and said reports about her travel were misleading, adding that she complied with federal gift and reporting requirements.

The State Department's Office of the Inspector General has opened an investigation into Guilfoyle and the U.S. Embassy in Greece, two people familiar with the decision confirmed. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was in Athens as recently as October 8, flatly refused to comment on the allegations when asked. No final decision on her removal had been announced as of the time of the reports.
